So what if Androids dream of electric sheep, what do they call their kids?

Robots

This is for this week’s Double Vision, but I actually like it as a stand alone cartoon so I’m putting it up early. It’s a simple cartoon but there’s a few influences there: Big Guy and Rusty in particular the World of Pain episode, Chris Cunningham’s Bjork video, AI, that really long sneaker ad with Will Smith, some of the Matrix Animated robots and of course Asimov.

If you find it a bit creepy, you should. I’ve a longer essay on it at some stage, but I believe the quest to create the resemblance of humanity in robots (and by extension, CGI rendered characters) which is gathering pace (and seems to have general aesthetic agreement) will ultimately make us confront the question of whether we are just the resemblence of humanity.

If you find the stars of this video cute you’re having an emotional response to a resemblance of humanity!

How to Deal with Death.

Via Damien Mulley’s blog, How To Deal With Death. This has moments of genius- watch how the wings linger over the woman, caressing her with each sweep. Beautiful.

Caricatures from Killarney

caricatures-1.jpg

I was working in Killarney on Saturday at a staff day in Muckross House. Killarney is a stunning place anyway, but the weather was… well the weather was that summer we never had compressed into one day.

Unusually I was working with two other caricature artists, Niall O’Loughlin (who organised it) and Aidan Cooney. We created many drawings between us.

Here’s the lads looking pensive as the guests arrive:

Why ’tis like the streets of Paris!

Here’s some of my own victims subjects:

Great craic and everyone really enjoyed themselves, including the artists!

Cyber Lurgy!

Computer Virus

Belatedly again, Double Vision is now up.

Killarney Alert!

I’m working with two other caricature artists (Niall and Aidan) in Killarney on Saturday, and as we’re staying over we’re thinking we may take our paper and pens out with us for a few pints and a few drawings…

If you’re about Killarney on Saturday night keep an eye out for us!
