Your Friday Music Video: Cibo Matto, Sugar Water

This video was my earliest encounter with the genius of Michel Gondry. It’s a shame he squandered his time on the woeful Be Kind Rewind recently. Watch this video and spend the rest of the day saying to yourself “how did they do that?”

Using Coca-Cola to distribute rehydration salts

I came across this idea via the excellent leCraic:

That Coca Cola use their distribution channels (which are amazing in developing countries) to distribute rehydration salts. Maybe by dedicating one compartment in every 10 crates as ‘the life saving’ compartment?

It’s from former aid worker Simon Berry. He’s started a facebook group and is trying to set up a meeting with Coca-Cola. If you have a facebook account, why not join the group? I did.

Coolio.

Wedding Entertainment In Dundalk

I was in the Ballymascanlon House Hotel in Dundalk whipping out caricatures during the drinks reception of Sinead and Cormac on Saturday. When I do drinks reception entertainment it serves to keep the guests happy while the newlyweds are off with the photographer. It can be a bit of pressure on the couple and the photographer to get the shots done before the call to dinner, so I keep the guests nicely distracted while all that’s going on!

More below the fold. And this was the start of what turned out to be a brilliant weekend. [Read more →]

Inishowen Gospel Choir in Sligo, and a wee trip to Glencar!

On the way to Dundalk on Saturday (I went via Ardee) I spotted a sign for Derry- 163km. I suggested to the New Muse (who’s been accompanying me to one or two gigs) that it would be quicker to go to Donegal after the wedding than drive back to Galway, and we could make a night of it (Carndonagh is the craic central of Inishowen). I rang The Voice to see if we could stay with her and The Drums, but they were en route to Sligo for an Inishowen Gospel Choir gig in the Clarence Hotel.
The New Muse and I had a quick bite (of food!) in Dundalk and hit the road for Sligo. We took the scenic route from Castleblaney to Clones and then on to Enniskillen, Manorhamilton and finally Sligo. We saw donkeys and ruins and pockets of an Ireland thought long dead: dwellings resting at crossroads with sunken glass in deep windows and walls made of ivy.
We arrived in Sligo in plenty of time for the gig. I got shot in a drive-by waterpistolling as we walked to the venue, I started to give chase and I was catching up when I realised I’d survive as they missed all my vital organs and it probably wasn’t worth it. (Video and pics below the fold).
