Competition time – win a caricature!

I was giving a workshop for the Drogheda Arts Festival on on satire and political cartooning at the weekend. These are some of the resultant pieces, which I think are brilliant!

So, to the competition.

Name the three public figures here and you can win an A3 colour caricature. All correct entries will be entered in a draw and the winner can order a caricature of whoever they like, be it a friend, family member, significant other, it’s up to you!
Send your answers by email to info [at] allancavanagh [dot] com or use the contact button opposite. Don’t forget to number your answers 1, 2 and 3 and mark entries as “Competition”.
Clues:
1) Wears a blue shirt.
2) It’s easy to get a a RISE out of him and he’s the colour of envy.
3) This Red is no longer the leader of a half party according to the latest polls.

Youth Democracy Cartoons

I was working in Oughterard yesterday with the Dail na nOg meeting of several Galway schools hosted by the Clann Resource Centre. Representatives of the schools got together and decided on the most pressing issues for their peers. Again and again, lack of facilities came up. More cartoons below the fold.

I’ll be doing some facilitation with school groups in Oughterard on Monday. I should get some good images from it. I’m basically using cartoons to document the discussions. It’s usually fun.

Concern Workshops

I’m planning a post later on the Concern development education workshops I facilitated around the country last month. I had a great bunch of Transition Year students in Galway, Dublin and Cork. This is an ongoing project aimed at raising awareness of global child exploitation. There are currently over 200 million children being used for labour in the world today.

Concern Workshop Tomorrow

I’ll be giving a workshop to transition year students tomorrow on the issue of child labour. It’s a heavy issue, but I try to make it informative and with an emphasis on action (like many similar issues the sheer weight of it can be overwhelming). I’ll post more on it tomorrow, hopefully I’ll have some images ready as well.

SPAN cartoons and about the Project

I’ve put all the SPAN cartoons together here. It’s a good way of showing what I can do for documenting conferences and meetings.

SPAN (Strategic Planning Action Network – Réseau de Programmation Stratégique Active) is a “North-West Europe” Interreg III B inter-regional cooperation project. Eight partners from four regions in four European Union Member States are involved in SPAN.

The project has an overall budget of EUR 4 million, 60% of which is funded by ERDF, through the Interreg III B Community Initiative.

SPAN aims to develop innovative approaches to strategic planning for the benefit of all the partner regions and test them under actual conditions. The stress is placed on the participation of civil society in the planning of territorial interventions at regional, infra-regional and local levels. The project also aims to shed new light on relations between urban and rural areas, relations which could be put to better use in the future.

SPAN CONVERSATIONS Project Update

Here are some of the images from the SPAN meetings I posted about earlier. These are from the initial meetings in 2003/2004. My role in these meetings was to capture the themes and issues of the meetings, which were otherwise quite dominated by “Eurospeak”! This cartoons will feed into the reports that the Southside Partnership will draw up for the project’s conclusion.

Looking at this last one, I wonder am I the first person to feature cow-pats on an official EU website?!
