Galway Social Space

I got a tour of new Galway venue the Galway Social Space last week. It’s quite impressive- they’ve taken over the old family home at the back of Griffin’s bakery on Middle Street, directly opposite an Taibhearc. It’s a community space available to groups for workshops and meetings. It’s completely voluntarily run. They’re still in the process of implementing the big idea, but the plan is to get a computer room running, and the space can be used by artists for exhibitions. There’s a number of rooms in the building and it’s very cosy. If you’re around the area pop in for a look and a coffee.

Two Galway-related blogs I’ve only just come across are the Moore Group’s and Julian Gough’s. They’ve both been around for a while by the looks of it but I only found the Moore Group’s one from a trackback on Damien’s, which led me to Julian’s. Both subscribed to now.
Have a read of the Moore Group’s excavations of Eyre Square and the centuries old skeletons they found there.

Also best of luck to Jazz Biscuit.

Galway Circus Project destroyed by joyriders

Photo: Galway Advertiser.
Galway Circus Project was destroyed last week by joyriders crashing into the back of Karen’s van, which then caught fire.
I’ve known Karen for most of the time she’s been in Galway and circus and clowning is her life. She dedicated a huge amount of time and personal resources into establishing the project. Many kids have benefitted from her training over the years.
She’s had her livelihood destroyed by scumbags who obviously have enough free time to go joyriding at 6am on a Monday.
I’m really sorry Karen.
