I was in the Wolseley Hotel, Tullow, Co. Carlow recently for a wedding. I’m finding it increasingly difficult to take photos at gigs, I’m so popular! I couldn’t believe when I came back and saw the signing board after the guests had signed it: one of them had created an almost perfect rendition of the dog!

Photographers banned from match, cartoonist captures winning goal!

From the BBC:

Plymouth Argyle’s winning goal against Southampton was captured by a cartoonist after the home side banned photographers from its grounds.

Artist Chris Robinson was hired by the Plymouth Herald newspaper to capture the League One side’s 1-0 win at St Mary’s stadium on Saturday.

The Southampton club restricted access to an official photographer meaning others were banned from attending.

Now if the Sunday Times would only lose that useless photoshopping and hire a cartoonist…

Langer of the Month: Celia Larkin & Robin O’Sullivan

This month’s Langer of the Month in The Corkonian is a combined Celia Larkin and Robin O’Sullivan. You’ll of course know Celia from her expertise on consumer affairs, as she’s bought a lot of expensive handbags. Fortunately this handbag cost has been defrayed by the generousity of the National Consumer Agency which paid out €13,184 to her for straining herself to attend five meetings in 2009. She also claimed €923 for soup and sandwiches.
Robin O’Sullivan is a former Cork Chamber of Commerce president and got €13,184 for attending 6 meetings of the NCA in 2009. He got €902 for soup and sandwiches. The size of his handbag collection remains a mystery.
Eddie Hobbs famously resigned from the NCA in protest at Hermes Larkin’s appointment. He got €5,834 in fees but didn’t claim for soup and sandwiches. The National Consumer Agency. Keeping Irish consumers safe from ripoffs. Now, what’s this over here? Electricity levy? What? CEELLLLIAAAAAA!!!!!

Pat Bracken RIP

UPDATE: Leaving Flaherty’s Funeral Home on Monday at 12pm, funeral to be held in St. Nicholas’ Church at 12.30.
Galway based puppeteer and stone mason Pat Bracken passed away yesterday. Many would know Pat from Quay Street, where his raucous puppets bantered with passers-by, and he was a regular fixture in the Macnas Parade, running ahead and warming up the crowd.
I don’t know any details of arrangements yet but will post them here when that changes.
