When drawing caricatures you have to choose a point on the spectrum of exaggeration from which to work. Generally I go harder on people I know and politicians. This is one I did for someone I know. Happy Birthday Gavin! !
Here’s some of my caricatures from a surprise 60th birthday party I was entertaining at in Sligo. I was the aperitif before the guests sat down to dinner!
And another one, this time for a 21st. Again, Happy Birthday! Need a birthday present? Contact me!
Completed caricature from last week for a 60th present. It’s a photograph rather than a scan so the quality’s not great. Happy Birthday!
Recently finished pencil drawing for a birthday present, worked up to A2 size from an old photo of the subjects from when they were children (without revealing ages I believe it was circa 1970s!).
I forget sometimes being so reliant on inks that pencil itself is a beautiful medium, especially when you’re working with a good range- I use B, 2B, 5B and 8B, starting with the hardest and working up to the softest, which corresponds with the darkest areas of the portrait. You need to be very careful when working with soft pencils as they smudge so easily.
