2017 Macnas Parade Route: It’s always an exciting time when the Macnas Parade route is announced. Families can get planning on their parking and public transport to get that special vantage point. This year’s parade promises to be a blinder! An interactive route map is at the bottom of this post!
Hundreds of colourful Macnas performers will depart from outside the main gates of NUI Galway campus (no admission to college grounds) and move down University Road, across the Salmon Weir Bridge, turning right at the Town Hall Theatre, moving down Francis and Eglinton Streets, before turning at Brown Thomas to move down Shop Street and into the Latin Quarter, down High Street and Quay Street. It will then continue across Wolfe Tone Bridge before finishing on the Claddagh Quay.
Recommended family viewing areas allow for a better vantage point for children and easier buggy access. Families can watch in comfort on University Road, along Eglinton Street or near the end of the route as the parade pushes all along the Claddagh Quay. The designated wheelchair viewing area will be at Galway Cathedral.
