Markree Castle Wedding Entertainment: I’d say it’s about 10 years since I’ve been in the ancestral home of the Coopers in Collooney, Co Sligo. The historic Markree Castle was a regular venue for me around 2008 and I had the privilege of being back there a couple of weeks ago to entertain the guests of Sharon & Alan on their wedding day.

The castle and grounds were looking absolutely splendid on this warm June day. I thought I was going to be a bit tight on space but where I was actually worked out really well, with direct sunlight on my easel but the sitters more shaded and lit from behind me (a real problem sometimes with drawing live caricatures at weddings is if the sitters are backlit by strong sunlight, it makes their faces hard to see!)
The guests were absolutely lovely and had a great time being drawn, with plenty of chat and craic between those sitting and those waiting! It’s happened a few times recently where I’ve been back in venues I hadn’t been in for about 10 years. Of course my style and speed have changed a lot in that time. I like to think I shave 2 seconds off my time every year! It was great to return to this wonderful venue I hope that I’m back in Markree Castle on a regular basis!
