Galway Cartoon Festival 2018 kicks off this weekend with a host of cartooning talent from across Ireland and around the world. The festival will run from 10-17 November 2018 in various venues here in Galway City including The Black Gate and the Town Hall Theatre. There will be exhibitions in both venues and in association with NUIG there will be a conference on cartoons in WWI in the Hardiman Building on the 10th November at 4pm. The theme this year ties into the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, and one of the exhibitions (Black Gate) deals with this specifically: A Peace to End All Peace.
The festival was founded by Richard Chapman (Sergei), with myself, Willy Brennan, Tom Mathews, curator Mags Nolan, Catherine Gagneux, and Iwona Kwiek forming the rest of the committee.
Exhibiting artists this year include Tom Mathews, Maria Apoleika, Virginia Cabras, Ciaraíoch (one of my faves), Hunt Emerson, Graeme Keyes, Caoimhe Lavelle, Marilena Nardi, my hero Martin Rowson, Jean-Claude Servais, and Maria TwistedDoodles, who you know because all her work gets ripped off by meme sites.
This year I will be exhibiting the following pieces:
Plus another cartoon concerning a certain Kerry dolphin that I haven’t posted here yet!
