Pet Portrait Ireland: this was a lovely caricature to draw. This portrait of 5 dogs was a recent commission for someone who wanted all their dogs together, as a couple of them had passed on. So working from a range of photos I put them all together in this dog caricature portrait. This piece is A2 size and framed. You can see the framed version below. Each of my frames are bespoke and handmade by Mark and Sandra in the Framing Loft on the Tuam Road (a great place to go to get any art or photos framed!).

The client was absolutely delighted with the piece judging by the lovely email I got from them:
“I just want to say that I absolutely love the picture you did of my dogs. It makes me smile every time I look at it. You’re very talented and thank you so much. Very best wishes, S.”
It was very rewarding to know the client was so happy with this dog portrait. Below you can see the finished piece in its frame before being shipped to the client:
I’ve been loving the caricature pet portraits of Tom Fluherty on Instagram and I’ve been very influenced in this piece by his work. Of course our styles are very different but he’s able to put so much character into his dog portraits I was able to learn a lot. That’s the thing about being an artist, you’re never finished learning, and Instagram has allowed me to study many artists who are at the absolute top of their game. I paid particular attention to things like the tilt of the head and how the dogs hold their ears, and how the ears fold, which is as particular to each dog for the purposes of a pet portrait as a fingerprint is to a human, I’ve come to realise.
