Errigal House Hotel Wedding Entertainment 4

Errigal House Hotel Wedding Entertainment: here’s a selection of live caricature art from a drinks reception in Cavan’s Errigal House Hotel where I was keeping the spirits high for the wedding guests! Have a look at the slideshow below. I’m available for wedding entertainment in Cavan wedding venues and all across the country. I draw live caricatures at weddings and events from Cork to Donegal and everywhere in between, and I’m pretty sure I’ve drawn in every county in Ireland at this stage! In 2017 I worked out that I’d drawn around 600 people from January to June of that year and as I’ve been a caricature artist for weddings and events for over 20 years you can imagine that I’m well on the way to drawing a medium-sized city at this stage! My live caricatures are a great entertainment extra and make a wonderful keepsake for your wedding guests from your big day as they are drawn on personalised paper with the couple’s names and the date of the wedding. So you’ve booked the wedding band and the wedding DJ, why not give your drinks reception an extra splash with hilarious live caricatures by Caricature Artist Allan Cavanagh!

To make an enquiry about live wedding caricatures simply click here and fill out your details in my short contact form.

I will then get back to you as soon as possible with my availability and costs. Please mention your venue and date in your enquiry.

Doctor retirement gifts Ireland: above is a recently completed retirement caricature for a HSE doctor in Sligo. The Precariat – Ursula Burke – Galway Arts Centre

ursula burke the precariat

Ursula Burke’s work explores abuses of power in many realms of the social and political in the West. Often, taking a Northern Irish context as a critical point of departure from which to generalise her approach outwards to international concerns. Formally, her work appropriates tropes deeply invested in the Classical, and re-inserts them in the contemporary, aiming to create a conceptual bridge between the Classical ‘ideal’ (in form/society) and the ‘reality’ of contemporary post-conflict Northern Irish society. The Precariat brings together a suite of work that seeks to investigate the experience of insecurity, fast becoming a universal condition as we struggle to subsist in an impoverished and increasingly unstable civil society, in which personal solutions are prescribed to global problems.

I was in college with Ursula in the 90s (I doubt she remembers me, she was in third year when I was in first) and she was a hugely engaged student, and I vividly remember her activism in the Art Department leading to the eventual migration to the specialised art campus of Cluain Mhuire in Wellpark. She was a very inspiring figure and spoke up for all of us. I’m looking forward to seeing her work in the Galway Arts Centre.

CÚRAM Art/Science Residency Galway – €10,000

There’s an excellent opportunity for artists wanting to or working around science themes in Galway. CÚRAM is a biomedical research centre in Galway, and has announced an artist’s residency worth €10,000.

Since 2015, CÚRAM, the Science Foundation Ireland funded Centre for Research in Medical Devices based at NUI Galway, has hosted artist residencies in its laboratories.

In partnership with the Galway City Arts Office, we are now inviting proposals from artists who are interested in working as part of CÚRAM’s public engagement programme, which supports Science Foundation Ireland’s objective of ‘having the most scientifically informed and engaged public’.

We invite artists to propose ideas for an ambitious and contemporary permanent artwork in Galway’s Eastside community in Ballybane and Doughiska. The budget for this project is €10,000.

The artist will work with one of the following three themes:
• Cardiovascular research – Researcher: Professor William Wijns
• Soft and hard tissue regeneration – Researcher: Dr Dimitrios Zeugolis
• Biomaterials and the body – Researcher – Dr Manus Biggs

The chosen artist will work within the CÚRAM laboratories to learn about CÚRAM’s research and will then spend a period of time working with the Eastside community to realise the project. The artist will be required to undergo Garda vetting.

Time is short on getting a proposal submitted in time for 5pm, June 21st. Interested artists should make submissions to curam@nuigalway.ie. No submissions will be accepted after this date, so interested artists should get working on proposals ASAP!
