Caricature Artist Allan Cavanagh: Here’s some of the caricatures I drew yesterday for the Hotel Meyrick’s Client Christmas Lunch. The lunch was hosted in the hotel and I ended up drawing a few clients of my own, which was funny because I’ve drawn so many caricatures *for* them, I’ve never gotten around to drawing one of them!
Kerry Wedding Entertainment: here’s a selection of live caricatures from Caroline & Eric’s wedding reception in the jaw-dropping surrounds of Sheen Falls Lodge Hotel near Kenmare in Kerry. It was of course decked out in its Christmas finery (I had to surrender my usual spot to the Christmas tree but I got over it). A roaring fire that would have roasted chestnuts a half a mile away and the contagious scent of mulled wine set the mood nicely for the guests’ arrivals, and when they sat with me the laughter wasn’t long flowing!
Galway Wedding: As one of Ireland’s top wedding caricature artists I’ve worked extensively all over Galway City and County and I thought it would be helpful to recap some of the venues I’ve worked in. I’ve literally drawn 1000s of wedding guests all over the county I’ve made my home since 1994 (I’m a Donegal man!). My caricatures are an excellent addition to your drinks reception and I do after the meal on request. Most couples go to some scenic location straight after their wedding to get their photos taken. Live caricatures create a focal point of entertainment in your absence. It’s a great ice-breaker as I get a crowd of guests gathered around me as I create my caricatures in under 3 minutes per face. There are roars of laughter when my drawings are revealed to the sitting guests! The paper is printed with the newlyweds’ names and the date of their wedding so they make an excellent keepsake for wedding guests. 70th Birthday Present Ideas: I didn’t have time to scan this family caricature as it was winging its way to Scotland for the seated chap in the middle’s birthday! These are one of my favourite birthday gift caricatures as I’m drawing 3 generations of one family, and the finished pieces have huge sentimental value for the subject. Families these days can be all over the world and getting together can be extremely difficult so my birthday caricatures are often family groups that haven’t been together in a while so they have grateful recipients. My caricatures are individually tailored based on a list of references my clients request to have included and it can take a while for the subject of the caricature to spot them all! There were several in this one including his favourite chair, football team and his love of crossword puzzles! I got a lovely review too:
Allan did a caricature picture for my Dads 70th birthday of all the family and grand kids. Picture turned out brilliant and was a great surprise for my Dad who got a real kick out of it. Allan was easy to deal with and came up with an excellent caricature of my Dad the way I described. His imagination is great. Thanks Allan all the best for the future.

Armada Hotel Weddings Clare: here’s a few photos of my live caricatures on the wild coast of Spanish Point Clare! These are from August when I was down there for this lovely couple’s drinks reception. I had their guests in stitches, but with weddings you’ve got a motivated crowd! Part of the fun of live caricatures is getting an audience and letting the banter flow. It’s a brilliant focal point and ice-breaker, people get to know each other very quickly when they’re being rendered by my pen!
