Galway Comedy Carnival: Phill Jupitus in the Kenny Gallery Galway

Galway Comedy Carnival Phill Jupitus Drawing Phill Jupitus and Allan Cavanagh. Photo by Dean Kelly
Phill Jupitus was in Galway for the Galway Comedy Carnival and spent several mornings in the Kenny Gallery. Phill was putting his own spin on existing works using his iPad and the public was invited to join in. I went up on the last day and took part. It was a lot of fun, Phill creates very accomplished pieces in a short time.

Kilkenny Wedding Entertainment in Langton House Hotel!

Kilkenny Wedding Entertainment in Langton House Hotel!
Lots of laughs from the guests in Langton House Hotel for my Kilkenny Wedding Entertainment at the weekend! My live caricatures are a great afternoon’s fun for your guests before they sit down for the meal. I set up for the drinks reception and draw 40-50 guests in just 2 hours. Each face takes 3 minutes or less! Yes I am very fast, I’ve been at this a long time. Let’s just say I had a full head of hair when I started. 😉 When the dinner bell is rung I get to spend a few minutes with the newlyweds, which is often the first time they’ve gotten to sit down since they said I do! My paper is printed with the date and the names of the couple, and many hundreds of my drawings take pride of place on walls in homes all around the country and the world. For a truly unique and memorable focal point for your wedding reception give me a shout today.

Carton House Hotel Weddings

Carton House Hotel Weddings caricatures by Allan Cavanagh
I had a wonderful time creating live caricature art for the guests of Yvonne and Caroline in Carton House Hotel in Maynooth at the weekend. In 2 hours I can create 40-50 likenesses on A3 paper printed with the couples’ names and the date of their wedding. It’s an excellent keepsake for guests of the big day and an hilarious focal point during the drinks reception. I’m available to travel all over Ireland and Northern Ireland, so if you’re getting married just drop me a line for a no-obligation quote on my caricature services! Galway Cartoon Festival 21-30 October 2017

Galway Cartoon Festival
Galway Cartoon Festival: a new entry into Galway’s crowded calendar of fun, the Cartoon Festival is an event to celebrate drawings that make us laugh and make us think. Its stated purpose is to bring great cartooning from around the world for people here to appreciate and enjoy. Cartoon is the one major artform that we don’t celebrate in Galway and it’s high time for that to change.

The core of the festival will be two exhibitions of drawings by some of the leading practitioners in Ireland, Europe and the USA. Names include Martyn Turner of the Irish Times, Martin Rowson of the Guardian, the inimitable Tom Mathews, Graeme Keyes of The Phoenix, Tom Tomorrow of the American underground, and local cartoonists Allan Cavanagh and Richard Chapman (Sergei). Cyprus, Latvia, Turkey, Portugal, Slovakia, Belgium, Germany and Malta will be among the many other countries represented.

In order to squeeze into the busy schedule of culture the festival runs at the same time as the Galway Comedy Carnival and shares a venue in the Town Hall Theatre, so why not catch a cartoon exhibition and stand-up comedian on the same night?

As well as exhibitions, the Galway Cartoon Festival is planning workshops, discussions and other events concerning aspects of the cartoon arts. These will be held at the Black Gate Cultural Centre (and Wine Bar) on Frances Street.

Main sponsor of the Festival – and key location for cartoon blather – is Tigh Neachtain, arguably Galway’s most cartoon-like pub. If members of the public find any lost cartoonists they are asked to return them here.

The Town Hall Theatre exhibition opens on Saturday October 21 at 3.30pm. The Black Gate exhibition opens on Tuesday October 24 at 6.00pm. Both run until October 30.

Live caricature: here’s a real-time video of me drawing a wedding guest in the Oriel House Hotel Cork last Saturday. Each face takes under 3 minutes and you can get a good idea of the process from this video. She was very happy with it! It’s a great ice-breaker for your guests when they arrive in the hotel and really gets the fun going for the day. I had a lovely review from the couple whose big day it was too!

Absolutely unreal talent. Great banter. Worth every penny. Fab keepsake
