George Lee- It’s my ball and I’m going home. #glee

george-lee-resigns
George Lee has resigned from Fine Gael and has resigned his seat in the Dáil for the most petulant, self-indulgent reasons. Quitting the party is one thing, but to resign the seat after 9 months spits in the eye of the Dublin South electorate. I’d be surprised if there’s more than a 40% turn out in the inevitable by-election to come.
Quitting a Dáil seat in frustration at not being able to change things in 9 months is a complete contradiction in terms and a copout that Sarah Palin would be proud of.

Resign John O’Donoghue

john-o-donoghue-400px
John O’Donoghue, get out.
You’ve brought disrepute to this non-political office you say you care so much about, and you’ve massively ripped the taxpayer off. Pay for your own races you greedy, sausage-fingered buffoon. Get the hell out of the office of Ceann Comhairle and get the hell out of Dáil Éireann.

I’m Barack Obama

I did the RTE Electoral Compass to see where I stand in the US political landscape. Based on my answers I practically am Barack Obama, although apparently I’m 5% “more progressive” than him on social issues.
I’m not getting excited about this election. I hate George Bush and I think the McCai/Palin ticket is a terrifying prospect, but I think the messianic part of the Obama act is going to be a huge anti-climax for a lot of people when he turns out to be a fallible, toe-stubbing human being. And I speak from experience as someone who stayed up all night in ’97 watching the New Labour landslide as if I were watching the Return of the Jedi. Look where that got the world. Thanks Tony.

The Daily No-Show

John Stewart caricature

Well damn and blast it The Daily Show has blocked Irish viewers (and I assume everyone else) from watching full episodes on their website. I don’t have a television so the site was the only place I could watch it. I’ve been kicked out of the Colbert Nation too.

That’s not funny.
