Welcome to my inaugural newsletter, a very grand way of saying I’ve figured out how to only send some posts to you dear subscriber, instead of all of them. Some of you have been very patient getting every single blogpost in your inbox, and many of you have even opened them. Many thanks! I’m now going to do a monthly-ish roundup of what I’ve been at and hopefully some interesting or fun internet things I’ve found. A fun internet, remember that!
Shocking Stats for 2025
In 2025 I attended 160 weddings and events, which means I drew in the region of 4,800 people over the course of the year. That’s four thousand eight hundred souls recorded in caricature. For context Athenry has a population of 4,600.
My New Year’s Resolution Exploded.
At the start of this month I committed to draw free cartoons or art for rights-based groups. The world is being torn apart by evil people and if I can use my skills in some way in solidarity and mobilisation against them then I might hold on to some hope. I also did this as a pushback against the encroaching slop of generative AI in the activist space. I announced it on Instagram and expected one or two Irish campaigns to get in touch, it absolutely exploded and I had approaches from groups in England, Italy, United States, New Zealand and many more. I ended up recruiting a few more artists to help. If you’re an artist and want to get involved in this drop me a line.
Some of the cartoons I’ve drawn so far.
Even More Cartoons:
I did some other cartoons of my own bat too, including my take on Simon Harris’ views on immigrants:

And here’s a cartoon that occured to me as I walked through Galway during a rally for Gaza and saw so many people looking puzzled about why there was a rally for Gaza:

When you’re passionate and informed about something it’s hard to remember that most people aren’t; a thing needs to be explained simply and carefully from basic tenets. I’ve realised that from talking to people about generative AI (outside my online bubble people just don’t know anything about its workings, IP theft, built-in biases, massive water and energy waste, and oh boy speaking of bubbles…)
This cartoon was viewed almost a million times on Reddit. It really struck a nerve.

Weddings:
This month I posted work from weddings in Muckross Park, Broadhaven Bay, Wells House, Kilshane House, Bridge House Hotel, and Shamrock Lodge Hotel.
Commissions:
These are some of the commissions I posted on the site this month.

I’m Learning Irish Through Song
As someone who can neither speak Irish nor sing of course I signed up for a course to learn songs in Irish. The immensely talented Amano is running an online course for the next few weeks and it’s just one of the loveliest and rewarding things I’ve ever done. I feel very peaceful and jolly afterwards and I’m really hitting those lilts of Nead na Lachan sa Mhúta in the shower. Highly recommended when she runs this workshop again.
Music:
Being an old fart I don’t know anything about Melanie Martinez but I saw this the other day and I thought it’s very cool and arty. I presume there’s a longer video on the way. (Swearing!)
Comedy
I absolutely died watching Harry Hill and Stewart Lee. It’s the best bit of British comedy I’ve seen in years.
John Cage “Water walk”
Right, will that do you for now?
