Simon Harris comments on Immigration Cartoon

Simon Harris Cartoon: I was inspired by Simon Harris’ recent rallying against our immigrant community as somehow being at fault for the lazy failures of Fine Gael as they try to privatise every system for profit by letting every system fall apart until they can point to it and say “oh look! This doesn’t work! We’ll fix it… with capitalism!” I’ll have to do a follow-up for the equally noxious Jim O’Callaghan soon.

If you’ve been denied a service or have ended up on a waiting list it’s not the fault of someone coming here looking for a better life. The state has simply willingly failed to keep abreast of demand. Fine Gael have been in government for decades, immigration isn’t new, to turn around now and start treating our immigrant brothers and sisters as some problematic monolith draining our coffers is exactly what it looks like: an appeal to the base urge of racism as a distraction from the government selling the ground from under you. They’re sticking a cattle-prod in your ribs and telling you your neighbour did it. Immigrant people are not a monolith: each one is a person just like you, with a lifetime of individual experiences, just like you.

If you’re angry about social issues in Ireland put the blame where it belongs, at the feet of the government, and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with that immigrant person in demanding your rights. Simon Harris tries to drive a wedge because the one thing they truly fear is solidarity.

How do you like being dehumanised Simon!

Four panel cartoon description: first panel with caption “Simon Harris is a fan of dehumanising immigrant people. Let’s play that game too! Here are some fun ways we can dehumanise Simon Harris: let’s make him… a piece of toast!” There is a drawing of a piece of toast with Simon Harris’ face. Panel 2 says “oh look! A leaning ladder!” Simon Harris is drawn as a ladder. Panel 3 has Harris as a dead battery. Panel 4 depicts Harris as described in the caption: “A steaming pile of fresh dog turd!”
