George Lucas missed a trick in casting young Obi-Wan

I watched the original unadulterated Star Wars trilogy with the kids again last week, which I have on DVD. I simply do not recognise the abominable meddling George Lucas has visited on the Original Trilogy, and the prequels make no sense at all, and are similarly consigned to my mental dustbin.
However, watching Star Wars reminded me of seeing a young actor who would have made a perfect young Obi-Wan Kenobi: JJ Feild. I saw him in Jack and the Beanstalk: the Real Story, and his likeness to a young Alec Guinness is uncanny. If you’ve ever seen Guinness as Herbert Pocket in Great Expectations, Feild looks remarkably similar in his scenes in Jack.
He’d look more the part than Renton did anyway.

Watchmen Trailer

I, like many others, was very wary of the film version of the Watchmen, especially given Alan Moore’s own feelings on the subject, and the bastardised version of V for Vendetta (a dystopian London where everyone has a widescreen television).
When the costume pics came out, I grudgingly acknowledged they were pretty good but still was resolved not to go and see it.
And then the teaser trailer came out last week.

I’m obsessed. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it at this stage. The film might turn out to be poop but I’m getting more and more comfortable with the idea they might actually do the source material justice.
Of course if Alan Moore leaves a comment here I won’t go near it in a fit.

Shrek? I nearly shreked my head off to get out!

Shrek

Took the kids to see it last night in Galway’s best cinema, the Eye. I’m not a fan of the franchise anyway but Shrek the Third was boring beyond belief. It wasn’t about anything, it was laboured, it lacked humour. The youngest was bored silly and at times I found myself cringing so hard I nearly pooped myself. By comparison that would have been hilarious.

If you’re hassled into taking the youngsters to see it, put it on your “things I did for the kids which they now owe me for as adults” list that all parents keep. Admit it, you have one.
