Here’s another of my cartoons from Simon McGarr’s The Gist’s Christmas Recap of 2024. This one features the Coimisiún na Meán’s whacky plans to have people upload their passports and live selfies to porn sites. I did publish this one here before linking out to The Gist at the time but this gives it a little more context. You can find links to the other Gist cartoons below or see them all in one place over at The Gist in the link above. This brings this particular batch of Irish and international political cartoons to an end (for now, I’m here for 2025 Simon!) I will return to publishing a weekly original cartoon every two to three weeks next week or the week after or after a hiatus of several years. You just never know!
More Cartoons:
- Gardai Facial Recognition Technology
- Trump Keir Starmer Downing Street Cartoon
- Green Party and the Irish General Election 2024
- Irish Housing Crisis Cartoon
- Even more cartoons by Irish Cartoonist Allan Cavanagh!
From The Gist at the time (28 Jan 2024):
Once upon a time, state bodies did not issue rambling statements radiating J Jonah Jameson-shout-dictating-while-pacing energy, describing their own plans as a ‘porn user register’.
That time was before last Friday, when Coimisiún na Meán decided to write a letter to the Editor of the Irish Times, and then (when it wasn’t actually published on the Letters page) to publish it on its own site. An action which, now it has happened, we can take as being Perfectly Normal for an Internet Regulator. Which marks a change from before Friday, when it was typically the action of Internet Cranks.
