Canvas Wedding Signing Board

Canvas Wedding Signing Board: with weddings now back in style my canvas signing boards are starting to move again and here’s one I created for a lovely couple earlier this year. It features symbolic objects from their lives including teaching, science, PE, technical drawing, engineering, and farming (you can see the prize bull in the background!)
When you order one of my canvas signing boards for your wedding, I create a unique caricature from photos of you both and incorporate as many jokes, hobbies and other references as you like. There is a short order form to complete to capture these details as well as your eye colour and hair colour (not always obvious from photos!). You then receive a 40cm x 60cm canvas print on a wooden stretcher, with white space around the caricature for your guests to sign on the day. It can either be sent to your home address or delivered straight to the venue, whichever you prefer. They’re supplied ready to hang but are also suitable for framing. Price at time of writing is €250 including delivery and 2 fine tip black Sharpie markers. You can see this signing board in place at the venue waiting for the guests signatures below! Brexit-Themed Wedding Invitation!

Brexit Themed Wedding Invitation caricature ireland

This caricature was for the invitations for a cross-border wedding last year, and the couple chose to have a fun take on the impending Brexit business! They’re standing on the border with the family farm and a blue New Holland tractor in the background. In the ground either side of the “border” are the county flags for Fermanagh and Leitrim. I’ve drawn the couple in the actual wedding attire they were planning for their big day, right down to the groom’s navy dickie-bow!
The Irish wedding industry will be hotting up again by the summer and already people are planning their weddings for 2022, 2023, and I’ve even had an enquiry for 2024! If you want to capture a feeling of fun right from the get-go a caricature wedding invitation is the way to go. If you order one of my wedding signing boards the digital version of the artwork is included for free! You can simply send this file to your printer and they’ll do the rest. So if you’re at the planning stage of your wedding and you’re starting to think about what to put on those wedding invitations, or you’re looking for a fun way to commemorate your big day, feel free to get in touch any time!

Caricature of a Dairy Consultant!

dairy consultant caricature personalised from photos allan cavanagh

One of the coolest things about my job is learning about technical stuff from other occupations. Case in point: in this personalised caricature of a dairy consultant I had to draw a plate meter (the thing he’s holding in his left hand). I’d never heard of a plate meter so I was very curious about what it is and what it’s for! Turns out it’s a device for measuring grass height! It also never occurred to me that grass needed to be measured, and if someone had asked me to do it I’d have gotten on my hands and knees with a ruler and a comb. The customer gave me some details:
“The plate meter has a suspended plate that measures grass height. It converts this height into Kg of dry matter grass per hectare. The aim is to graze the grass at the correct stage. Too high and quality reduces. Too low and growth rates reduce.” I learned something about dairy farming!

The subject here is an agriculture dairy consultant who was returning home to New Zealand (what a good place to be”) after working in Ireland for years. He’s pictured in his work shirt with his company logo on it. He’s got his bag packed for his return trip and it contains a bottle of glenlivit 18 whiskey, running shoes, and a sticker for the Kerry Way Ultra run, a 200km run that happens around the Ring of Kerry! Also pictured are a particular breed of cow and a bag of fertiliser with some Post-It notes! In this instance I even had to get a particular type of grass for the field the subject is standing in, called multi-species. I learned something else! In the background are 26 mountain peaks representing another run the subject did across the 26 highest peaks in Wicklow.

5 star review  “Allan created a brilliant representation of a good friend. Couldn’t speak highly enough of the end product and delivery was very prompt.”
