I’ve started listening to Meet Your Maker podcast, produced and presented by media polyglot Liam Geraghty. If you’ve kids you’ve probably seen Liam’s work as a puppeteer on the show Brain Freeze but he’s also a RTE business correspondent. He co-presented the late, and much loved, Comic Cast podcast. France-based Irish artist Emmy Knight is launching an exciting illustrated book on Andy Warhol. Sad to see William Shatner turn into a cranky “make Cardassia Great Again” type.
This smoking cartoon appeared in the Connacht Tribune in 2004 in an article by Charlie Adley.
The internet was still a frontier town as far as images were concerned in 2004. Loads of my cartoons ended up being the number 1 result in search results back then. This was the top image for “smoking cartoon” back then. It was all very different. A small site could generate a huge amount of traffic from a little content. Now the bushfire of social media prevents anyone but the dedicated searcher from reaching you. I don’t mean to sound like an old man but I’m an old man in internet years. They’re like dog years but way waaay longer. People used to browse websites just for fun and recreation. True story. You’d get your news via blogs. In the internet of 2004, you’d get points for just turning up!
This family caricature was commissioned last week. It had a very tight turnaround time but I pulled out all the stops and got it done and delivered in jig time! Each child is portrayed playing their favourite sport, which went down very well with the client. There’s football, hurling, swimming, horse riding, Taekwondo, cricket, and gymnastics. I liked the details I got to include in it.
Yes that’s Chewbacca you see there, and there’s a Wonder Woman t-shirt in there too!
This is the finished piece framed. It was an A2 piece so bigger than my scanner can handle, hence the top image is partially in shadow as it’s a photo rather than a scan. All the frames for my caricatures are hand made with great care by Mark in the Framing Loft here in Galway.
My caricatures make ideal birthday presents, especially if there’s a big brood of grandkids, so drop me a line if you’d like to know more about my family caricatures! You can leave a comment below or head over to my contact page. I deliver all over Ireland and the UK.
Just look at that photo of Susie Fontana Brooke from Waters of Mars. We now know what we long suspected: the Doctor will sometimes regenerate looking like someone (s)he has encountered in hisher life. There’s Twelve and Caecilius from Fires of Pompeii: This potentially spoilery meeting from Day of the Doctor (click for image) And … Read more
